That's quite innovative. Wish I can be like this person, lie down and watch some tom and jerry the whole day :D
I taught Aicardi (my tuition kid) after like a long 2 weeks break due to exams. As thick skinned as I've always been, we began the usual chit chatting session.
Me: So, how have you been for the past 2 weeks? Got miss me not?!
Her: Yah, of course got lah.
Me: Haha, really? Ok, out of 100%, 0 being never miss 100 being miss the most, how many percent?
Her: *thought for a while* 100%.
Me: *um-chioing* But if I were you,I'll be throwing party lor,got one less subject to care about and less homework!
Her: No lor, it's not.
Me: No lor what?
Her: It's not lah. It's really noottttt....
Hahas, I guess I can feel what she meant to express. She's so cute :)
I enjoyed the preacher's sermon during service today. It's been quite some time since I really really took in some good word as food for thought. He told us he's a law practitioner, and I have no doubt about that cos he speaks like a bullet train, and he goes like "point number 1, point number 2"...
But! I do admire him for being in the light in this profession, shining ever so brightly. I've always found it a tall task to be that beacon wherever I am. Imagine a lawyer whom the society views to be so prim and proper, yet people respect the lawyer not because he has won countless cases, but simply because he shone from within. Of course, only His light is illuminating.
He made us rethink about questions that people have asked me before. Like, is there a God? Are there many Gods, or is there only one God? Why did God create us? Why not just leave us in Heaven and enjoy everything.
Then he gave us an analogy about earthly parents. Actually the reason is very simple, we were created by Him as the same reason why we were "created" by our parents. Our parents didn't give birth to us to make us servants of them, or money machines, and definately not for the fun of it, but because our parents wanted a relationship with us. Someone they could call them own daughters and son, their flesh and blood, their precious children. In a similar way, God created us because He wanted to commune with us, so that we can call him papa and talk to Him all day long. As simple as that. And I guess that's what every parent wants of their kid too.
Then He went on to talk about the extent of our love for Him and His love for us. For the benefit of those who don't know, there's this story in the old testament about a man called Abraham and his son called Isaac. One day, God actually told Abraham that He wanted Isaac to be sacrificed, meaning He wanted Isaac's life! Ok, on first thought you might be thinking why is this God so cruel and inhumane. But that's not the end of the story! The Lord deliberately did this to test Abraham's faithfulness.
So, Abraham told Isaac that God gave certain instructions and certain things has to be carried out. As a father, he felt the pain when he laid Isaac at the altar, but as God's son, he chose to obey and trust that the Lord is good. And the Bible wrote that he picked up the knife and was preparing to stab it right into his own son's heart. But, God obviously wouldn't allow it to happen. Some of us might ask, God is omniscient, He knows the beginning and the end of time. So He would have known that Abraham would be faithful. Why go to the trouble to of putting Abraham to test?
The preacher said, well, God wanted to experience his son's love as well. Many a times we only want to experience God's love, but we forgot that loving is a two-way communication. The bible wrote "And now I (God) know you love me". And now, God clearly knows Abraham loves him. So much that he was willing to lay down his son's life to trust in God's plans. And how much did God love Abraham? He promised that "you will be a father of many nations...as many as the stars in heaven". Indeed, His promises were fulfilled. Up till this day, this is what comes to our minds when we think of Abraham: father of many nations.
I guess it's the same with us living in the new testament today. We say we love God, but we don't ever trust Him enough. We don't give him the small things in life, but the rest we refuse to let go, we like to hold and hold and hold. It's easier said than done, because up till this day I like to control my own life as well. But the more we hold on to, the less God can use us to show his prowess.
For those still having exams, or simply going through a rough patch in life, remember that God is bigger than anything else on earth. Believe it or not, He is always faithful. Nothing that you do will make him love you more, nothing that you've done will make Him close the door. You just have to trust, a faith as small as a mustard seed that can move mountains.
Simply things like this, it takes me 19 years to understand. Fine, 20 soon. And don't remind me about that age thing this year, it just strikes doubly hard this particular year!
Oh by the way, I love my mummy. She helps me catch cockroaches in the toilet :)
